²³ Every living thing on the face of the earth was wiped out; people and animals and the creatures that move along the ground and the birds were wiped from the earth.^(A) Only Noah was left, and those with him in the ark.^(B)

⁵ if he did not spare the ancient world^(A) when he brought the flood on its ungodly people,^(B) but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others;^(C)

²⁰ to those who were disobedient long ago when God waited patiently^(A) in the days of Noah while the ark was being built.^(B) In it only a few people, eight in all,^(C) were saved^(D) through water,

⁷ By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen,^(A) in holy fear built an ark^(B) to save his family.^(C) By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that is in keeping with faith.^(D)

²⁶ “Just as it was in the days of Noah,^(A) so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man. ²⁷ People were eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all.

⁶ By these waters also the world of that time^(A) was deluged and destroyed.^(B)

³⁷ As it was in the days of Noah,^(A) so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. ³⁸ For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage,^(B) up to the day Noah entered the ark; ³⁹ and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.^(C)

⁴⁶ “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.^(A)”^(B)

¹⁷ “On the day when I act,” says the Lord Almighty, “they will be my^(A) treasured possession.^(B) I will spare^(C) them, just as a father has compassion and spares his son^(D) who serves him. ¹⁸ And you will again see the distinction between the righteous^(E) and the wicked, between those who serve God and those who do not.^(F)
