² that the sons of God saw the daughters of men, that they were beautiful; and they ^(A)took wives for themselves of all whom they chose.

²⁴ And half of their children spoke the language of Ashdod, and could not speak the language of Judah, but spoke according to the language of one or the other people.

²⁵ So I ^(A)contended with them and ^[a]cursed them, struck some of them and pulled out their hair, and made them ^(B)swear by God, saying, “You shall not give your daughters as wives to their sons, nor take their daughters for your sons or yourselves. ^26 (C)Did not Solomon king of Israel sin by these things? Yet among many nations there was no king like him, ^(D)who was beloved of his God; and God made him king over all Israel. ^(E)Nevertheless pagan women caused even him to sin. ²⁷ Should we then hear of your doing all this great evil, ^(F)transgressing against our God by marrying pagan women?”

^3 (A)Nor shall you make marriages with them. You shall not give your daughter to their son, nor take their daughter for your son. ⁴ For they will turn your sons away from following Me, to serve other gods; ^(B)so the anger of the Lord will be aroused against you and destroy you suddenly.

⁶ So when the woman ^(A)saw that the tree was good for food, that it was ^[a]pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit ^(B)and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.

¹⁶ For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, ^(A)the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.

^7 (A)nor are they all children because they are the seed of Abraham; but, ^(B)“In Isaac your seed shall be called.” ⁸ That is, those who are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God; but ^(C)the children of the promise are counted as the seed.

⁴¹ You do the deeds of your father.”

Then they said to Him, “We were not born of fornication; ^(A)we have one Father—God.”

⁴² Jesus said to them, ^(B)“If God were your Father, you would love Me, for ^(C)I proceeded forth and came from God; ^(D)nor have I come of Myself, but He sent Me.

¹² Or else, if indeed you do ^(A)go back, and cling to the remnant of these nations—these that remain among you—and ^(B)make marriages with them, and go in to them and they to you, ¹³ know for certain that ^(C)the Lord your God will no longer drive out these nations from before you. ^(D)But they shall be snares and traps to you, and scourges on your sides and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from this good land which the Lord your God has given you.
