⁸ besides all the members of Joseph’s household and his brothers and those belonging to his father’s household.^(A) Only their children and their flocks and herds were left in Goshen.^(B)

²⁴ Build cities for your women and children, and pens for your flocks,^(A) but do what you have promised.^(B)”

²⁵ The Gadites and Reubenites said to Moses, “We your servants will do as our lord commands.^{(C) 26} Our children and wives, our flocks and herds will remain here in the cities of Gilead.^{(D) 27} But your servants, every man who is armed for battle, will cross over to fight^(E) before the Lord, just as our lord says.”

²⁶ Our livestock too must go with us; not a hoof is to be left behind. We have to use some of them in worshiping the Lord our God, and until we get there we will not know what we are to use to worship the Lord.”

⁸ Then Moses and Aaron were brought back to Pharaoh. “Go, worship^(A) the Lord your God,” he said. “But tell me who will be going.”

⁹ Moses answered, “We will go with our young and our old, with our sons and our daughters, and with our flocks and herds, because we are to celebrate a festival^(B) to the Lord.”
