²³ And Joseph saw Ephraim's children ^(A)of the third generation. The ^(B)children also of Machir the son of Manasseh were ^(C)counted as Joseph's own.^[a]

³⁹ And the sons of ^(A)Machir the son of Manasseh went to Gilead and captured it, and dispossessed the Amorites who were in it.

¹⁶ And after this Job lived 140 years, and ^(A)saw his sons, and his sons' sons, four generations.

³ Then she said, “Here is my servant ^(A)Bilhah; go in to her, so that she may give birth ^(B)on my behalf,^[a] that even I may have children^[b] through her.”

17 Then allotment was made to the people of Manasseh, for he was ^(A)the firstborn of Joseph. To ^(B)Machir the firstborn of Manasseh, the father of Gilead, ^(C)were allotted Gilead and Bashan, because he was a man of war.

³³ And ^(A)Moses gave to them, to the people of Gad and to the people of Reuben and to the half-tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land and its cities with their territories, the cities of the land throughout the country.

¹⁹ But his father refused and said, ^(A)“I know, my son, I know. He also shall become a people, and he also shall be great. Nevertheless, ^(B)his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his offspring shall become a multitude^[a] of nations.”
