² And Joseph commanded his servants the physicians to ^(A)embalm his father. So the physicians embalmed Israel.

¹⁴ They buried him in his own tomb, which he had ^[a]made for himself in the City of David; and they laid him in the bed which was filled ^(A)with spices and various ingredients prepared in a mixture of ointments. They made ^(B)a very great burning for him.

²⁶ So Joseph died, being one hundred and ten years old; and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.

³⁹ And ^(A)Nicodemus, who at first came to Jesus by night, also came, bringing a mixture of ^(B)myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds. ⁴⁰ Then they took the body of Jesus, and ^(C)bound it in strips of linen with the spices, as the custom of the Jews is to bury.

He Is Risen^(A)

16 Now ^(B)when the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome ^(C)bought spices, that they might come and anoint Him.

¹² For in pouring this fragrant oil on My body, she did it for My ^(A)burial.

⁷ But Jesus said, “Let her alone; ^[a]she has kept this for the day of My burial.

He Is Risen^(A)

24 Now ^(B)on the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they, ^[a]and certain other women with them, came to the tomb ^(C)bringing the spices which they had prepared.

⁸ She has done what she could. She has come beforehand to anoint My body for burial.
