50 Then Joseph threw himself on his father’s face and wept over him and kissed him.^(A)

⁴ I myself will go down with you to Egypt, and I will also bring you up again, and Joseph’s own hand shall close your eyes.”^(A)

The Coming of the Lord

¹³ But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, about those who have died,^[a] so that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope.

⁴ And, fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.^(A)

² Devout men buried Stephen and made loud lamentation over him.^(A)

³⁵ Jesus began to weep.^{(A) 36} So the Jews said, “See how he loved him!” ³⁷ But some of them said, “Could not he who opened the eyes of the blind man have kept this man from dying?”^(B)

Jesus Raises Lazarus to Life

³⁸ Then Jesus, again greatly disturbed, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone was lying against it.^(C)

³⁸ When they came to the synagogue leader’s house, he saw a commotion, people weeping and wailing loudly. ³⁹ When he had entered, he said to them, “Why do you make a commotion and weep? The child is not dead but sleeping.”

Death of Elisha

¹⁴ Now when Elisha had fallen sick with the illness of which he was to die, King Joash of Israel went down to him and wept before him, crying, “My father, my father! The chariots of Israel and its horsemen!”^(A)

⁷ Recite them to your children and talk about them when you are at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you rise.^{(A) 8} Bind them as a sign on your hand, fix them as an emblem^[a] on your forehead,^(B)

² And Sarah died at Kiriath-arba, that is, Hebron, in the land of Canaan, and Abraham went in to mourn for Sarah and to weep for her.^(A)
