⁹ You are a lion’s^(A) cub,^(B) Judah;^(C)
    you return from the prey,^(D) my son.
Like a lion he crouches and lies down,
    like a lioness—who dares to rouse him?
¹⁰ The scepter will not depart from Judah,^(E)
    nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet,^[a]
until he to whom it belongs^[b] shall come^(F)
    and the obedience of the nations shall be his.^(G)

“As a lion^(A) growls,
    a great lion over its prey—
and though a whole band of shepherds^(B)
    is called together against it,
it is not frightened by their shouts
    or disturbed by their clamor^(C)—
so the Lord Almighty will come down^(D)
    to do battle on Mount Zion and on its heights.

¹⁰ They will follow the Lord;
    he will roar^(A) like a lion.^(B)
When he roars,
    his children will come trembling^(C) from the west.^(D)
