Jacob Blesses Joseph’s Sons

48 After this Joseph was told, “Your father is ill.” So he took with him his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim.

³ So the sisters sent a message to Jesus,^[a] “Lord, he whom you love is ill.”

²³ Joseph saw Ephraim’s children of the third generation; the children of Machir son of Manasseh were also born on Joseph’s knees.

²⁰ To Joseph in the land of Egypt were born Manasseh and Ephraim, whom Asenath daughter of Potiphera, priest of On, bore to him.^(A)

⁵⁰ Before the years of famine came, Joseph had two sons, whom Asenath daughter of Potiphera, priest of On, bore to him.^{(A) 51} Joseph named the firstborn Manasseh,^[a] “For,” he said, “God has made me forget all my hardship and all my father’s house.” ⁵² The second he named Ephraim,^[b] “For God has made me fruitful in the land of my misfortunes.”^(B)

¹⁶ After this Job lived one hundred and forty years and saw his children and his children’s children, four generations.^(A)
