³¹ “Swear to me,”^(A) he said. Then Joseph swore to him,^(B) and Israel^(C) worshiped as he leaned on the top of his staff.^[a](D)

⁴⁷ Also, the royal officials have come to congratulate our lord King David, saying, ‘May your God make Solomon’s name more famous than yours and his throne greater^(A) than yours!’ And the king bowed in worship on his bed

²¹ By faith Jacob, when he was dying, blessed each of Joseph’s sons,^(A) and worshiped as he leaned on the top of his staff.

³ I want you to swear^(A) by the Lord, the God of heaven^(B) and the God of earth,^(C) that you will not get a wife for my son^(D) from the daughters of the Canaanites,^(E) among whom I am living,^(F)

Manasseh and Ephraim

48 Some time later Joseph was told, “Your father is ill.” So he took his two sons Manasseh and Ephraim^(A) along with him. ² When Jacob was told, “Your son Joseph has come to you,” Israel^(B) rallied his strength and sat up on the bed.

²⁹ When the time drew near for Israel^(A) to die,^(B) he called for his son Joseph and said to him, “If I have found favor in your eyes,^(C) put your hand under my thigh^(D) and promise that you will show me kindness^(E) and faithfulness.^(F) Do not bury me in Egypt,

²⁶ Then the man bowed down and worshiped the Lord,^(A)

²³ Now swear^(A) to me here before God that you will not deal falsely with me or my children or my descendants.^(B) Show to me and the country where you now reside as a foreigner the same kindness I have shown to you.”^(C)
