³ Pharaoh said to his brothers, ^(A)“What is your occupation?” And they said to Pharaoh, ^(B)“Your servants are shepherds, as our fathers were.”

³³ When Pharaoh calls you and says, ^(A)‘What is your occupation?’ ³⁴ you shall say, ^(B)‘Your servants have been keepers of livestock ^(C)from our youth even until now, both we and our fathers,’ in order that you may dwell ^(D)in the land of Goshen, for every shepherd is ^(E)an abomination to the Egyptians.”

¹⁰ For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: ^(A)If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat.

⁸ Then they said to him, “Tell us on whose account this evil has come upon us. What is your occupation? And where do you come from? What is your country? And of what people are you?”

¹⁴ Then Amos answered and said to Amaziah, ^(A)“I was^[a] no prophet, nor a prophet's son, but ^(B)I was a herdsman and a dresser of sycamore figs. ^15 (C)But the Lord took me from following the flock, and the Lord said to me, ‘Go, prophesy to my people Israel.’
