¹⁹ Why should we die before your eyes, both we and our land? Buy us and our land for bread, and we and our land will be servants of Pharaoh; give us seed, that we may ^(A)live and not die, that the land may not be desolate.”

² For there were those who said, “We, our sons, and our daughters are many; therefore let us get grain, that we may eat and live.”

³ There were also some who said, “We have mortgaged our lands and vineyards and houses, that we might buy grain because of the famine.”

⁸ Yet indeed I also count all things loss ^(A)for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ ⁹ and be found in Him, not having ^(B)my own righteousness, which is from the law, but ^(C)that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith;

²⁶ For what ^(A)profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or ^(B)what will a man give in exchange for his soul?

⁴ So Satan answered the Lord and said, “Skin for skin! Yes, all that a man has he will give for his life.
