A Silver Cup in a Sack

44 Now Joseph gave these instructions to the steward of his house:^(A) “Fill the men’s sacks with as much food as they can carry, and put each man’s silver in the mouth of his sack.^(B)

²⁵ Joseph gave orders to fill their bags with grain,^(A) to put each man’s silver back in his sack,^(B) and to give them provisions^(C) for their journey.^(D) After this was done for them,

¹⁶ When Joseph saw Benjamin^(A) with them, he said to the steward of his house,^(B) “Take these men to my house, slaughter an animal and prepare a meal;^(C) they are to eat with me at noon.”

Judgment on Jerusalem and Judah

¹⁹ So they went up to Joseph’s steward^(A) and spoke to him at the entrance to the house.

² So when they had eaten all the grain they had brought from Egypt,^(A) their father said to them, “Go back and buy us a little more food.”^(B)

² He said to the senior servant^(A) in his household, the one in charge of all that he had,^(B) “Put your hand under my thigh.^(C)
