³³ Now therefore let Pharaoh select a man who is discerning and wise and set him over the land of Egypt.

³⁹ So Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Since God has shown you all this, there is no one so discerning and wise as you.

³ Therefore, brothers and sisters, select from among yourselves seven men of good standing, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may appoint to this task,^(A)

²⁷ Therefore, O king, may my counsel be acceptable to you: atone for^[a] your sins with righteousness and your iniquities with mercy to the oppressed, so that your prosperity may be prolonged.”^(A)

¹³ Choose for each of your tribes individuals who are wise, discerning, and reputable, and I will make them your leaders.’^(A)

¹⁹ Now listen to me. I will give you counsel, and God be with you! You should represent the people before God and bring their cases to God.^{(A) 20} Teach them the statutes and instructions and make known to them the way they are to go and the things they are to do.^{(B) 21} You should also look for able men among all the people, men who fear God, are trustworthy, and hate dishonest gain; set them as officers over thousands, hundreds, fifties, and tens.^{(C) 22} Let them sit as judges for the people at all times; let them bring every important case to you but decide every minor case themselves. So it will be easier for you, and they will bear the burden with you.^(D)
