¹⁶ “I cannot do it,” Joseph replied to Pharaoh, “but God will give Pharaoh the answer he desires.”^(A)

⁵ Not that we are competent in ourselves^(A) to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God.^(B)

⁸ “We both had dreams,” they answered, “but there is no one to interpret them.”^(A)

Then Joseph said to them, “Do not interpretations belong to God?^(B) Tell me your dreams.”

⁴⁷ The king said to Daniel, “Surely your God is the God of gods^(A) and the Lord of kings^(B) and a revealer of mysteries,^(C) for you were able to reveal this mystery.^(D)”

⁶ he said, “Listen to my words:

¹² When Peter saw this, he said to them: “Fellow Israelites, why does this surprise you? Why do you stare at us as if by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk?

²⁸ but there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries.^(A) He has shown King Nebuchadnezzar what will happen in days to come.^(B) Your dream and the visions that passed through your mind^(C) as you were lying in bed^(D) are these:^(E)

²⁹ “As Your Majesty was lying there, your mind turned to things to come, and the revealer of mysteries showed you what is going to happen.^{(F) 30} As for me, this mystery has been revealed^(G) to me, not because I have greater wisdom than anyone else alive, but so that Your Majesty may know the interpretation and that you may understand what went through your mind.

¹⁰ But by the grace^(A) of God I am what I am, and his grace to me^(B) was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them^(C)—yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.^(D)

¹⁴ But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard of this, they tore their clothes^(A) and rushed out into the crowd, shouting: ¹⁵ “Friends, why are you doing this? We too are only human,^(B) like you. We are bringing you good news,^(C) telling you to turn from these worthless things^(D) to the living God,^(E) who made the heavens and the earth^(F) and the sea and everything in them.^(G)
