¹⁵ Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I had a dream, and no one can interpret it.^(A) But I have heard it said of you that when you hear a dream you can interpret it.”^(B)

¹⁶ Now I have heard that you are able to give interpretations and to solve difficult problems.^(A) If you can read this writing and tell me what it means, you will be clothed in purple and have a gold chain placed around your neck,^(B) and you will be made the third highest ruler in the kingdom.”^(C)

¹² He did this because Daniel, whom the king called Belteshazzar,^(A) was found to have a keen mind and knowledge and understanding, and also the ability to interpret dreams, explain riddles^(B) and solve difficult problems.^(C) Call for Daniel, and he will tell you what the writing means.^(D)”

⁹ Then the chief cupbearer said to Pharaoh, “Today I am reminded of my shortcomings.^{(A) 10} Pharaoh was once angry with his servants,^(B) and he imprisoned me and the chief baker in the house of the captain of the guard.^{(C) 11} Each of us had a dream the same night, and each dream had a meaning of its own.^{(D) 12} Now a young Hebrew^(E) was there with us, a servant of the captain of the guard.^(F) We told him our dreams, and he interpreted them for us, giving each man the interpretation of his dream.^{(G) 13} And things turned out exactly as he interpreted them to us: I was restored to my position, and the other man was impaled.^(H)”
