So the chief cupbearer told his dream to Joseph and said to him, “In my dream there was a vine before me,

10 (A)The visions of my head as I lay in bed were these: I saw, and (B)behold, a tree in the midst of the earth, and its height was great. 11 (C)The tree grew and became strong, and its top reached to heaven, and it was visible to the end of the whole earth. 12 (D)Its leaves were beautiful and its fruit abundant, and in it was food for all. (E)The beasts of the field found shade under it, and (F)the birds of the heavens lived in its branches, and all flesh was fed from it.

13 “I saw in (G)the visions of my head as I lay in bed, and behold, (H)a watcher, (I)a holy one, came down from heaven. 14 He (J)proclaimed aloud and said thus: (K)‘Chop down the tree and (L)lop off its branches, (M)strip off its leaves and scatter its fruit. (N)Let the beasts flee from under it and the birds from its branches. 15 But leave the stump of its roots in the earth, bound with a band of iron and bronze, amid the tender grass of the field. Let him be wet with the dew of heaven. Let his portion be with the beasts in the grass of the earth. 16 Let his mind be changed from a man's, and let a beast's mind be given to him; (O)and let seven periods of time (P)pass over him. 17 The sentence is by the decree of (Q)the watchers, the decision by the word of (R)the holy ones, to the end that the living may know that the Most High (S)rules the kingdom of men (T)and gives it to whom he will and (U)sets over it the lowliest of men.’ 18 This dream I, King Nebuchadnezzar, saw. And you, O (V)Belteshazzar, tell me the interpretation, because (W)all the wise men of my kingdom are not able to make known to me the interpretation, but you are able, for (X)the spirit of the holy gods is in you.”

At last Daniel came in before me—he who was named (A)Belteshazzar after the name of my god, and in whom is (B)the spirit of the holy gods[a]—and I told him the dream, saying,

13 When Gideon came, behold, a man was telling a dream to his comrade. And he said, “Behold, I dreamed a dream, and behold, a cake of barley bread tumbled into the camp of Midian and came to the tent and struck it so that it fell and turned it upside down, so that the tent lay flat.” 14 And his comrade answered, “This is no other than the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel; God has given into his hand Midian and all the camp.”

15 As soon as Gideon heard the telling of the dream and its interpretation, he worshiped. And he returned to the camp of Israel and said, “Arise, for the Lord has given the host of Midian into your hand.”

Now Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers they hated him even more. He said to them, “Hear this dream that I have dreamed: Behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and behold, (A)my sheaf arose and stood upright. And behold, your sheaves gathered around it and (B)bowed down to my sheaf.” His brothers said to him, “Are you indeed to reign over us? Or are you indeed to rule over us?” So they hated him even more for his dreams and for his words.

Then he dreamed another dream and told it to his brothers and said, “Behold, I have dreamed another dream. Behold, the sun, the moon, and eleven stars were bowing down to me.” 10 But when he told it to his father and to his brothers, his father rebuked him and said to him, “What is this dream that you have dreamed? Shall I and (C)your mother and your brothers indeed come (D)to bow ourselves to the ground before you?”
