¹⁷ And Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch. And he built a city, ^(A)and called the name of the city after the name of his son—Enoch.

⁴ I made my works great, I built myself ^(A)houses, and planted myself vineyards. ⁵ I made myself gardens and orchards, and I planted all kinds of fruit trees in them. ⁶ I made myself water pools from which to ^[a]water the growing trees of the grove. ⁷ I acquired male and female servants, and had ^[b]servants born in my house. Yes, I had greater possessions of herds and flocks than all who were in Jerusalem before me. ^8 (B)I also gathered for myself silver and gold and the special treasures of kings and of the provinces. I acquired male and female singers, the delights of the sons of men, and ^[c]musical instruments of all kinds.

^9 (C)So I became great and ^[d]excelled ^(D)more than all who were before me in Jerusalem. Also my wisdom remained with me.

^28 (A)Likewise as it was also in the days of Lot: They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; ²⁹ but on ^(B)the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all.

¹⁸ Now Absalom in his lifetime had taken and set up a ^[a]pillar for himself, which is in ^(A)the King’s Valley. For he said, ^(B)“I have no son to keep my name in remembrance.” He called the pillar after his own name. And to this day it is called Absalom’s Monument.

⁴ And they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower ^(A)whose top is in the heavens; let us make a ^(B)name for ourselves, lest we ^(C)be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.”

²² After he begot Methuselah, Enoch ^(A)walked with God three hundred years, and had sons and daughters.

¹⁸ Jared lived one hundred and sixty-two years, and begot ^(A)Enoch.
