The Family of Cain

¹⁶ Then Cain ^(A)went out from the ^(B)presence of the Lord and dwelt in the land of ^[a]Nod on the east of Eden.

³ For because of the anger of the Lord this happened in Jerusalem and Judah, till He finally cast them out from His presence. Then Zedekiah ^(A)rebelled against the king of Babylon.

³⁹ therefore behold, I, even I, ^(A)will utterly forget you and forsake you, and the city that I gave you and your fathers, and will cast you out of My presence.

⁷ So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord, and struck Job with painful boils ^(A)from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head.

²⁰ For because of the anger of the Lord this happened in Jerusalem and Judah, that He finally cast them out from His presence. ^(A)Then Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.

²³ But the Lord was ^(A)gracious to them, had compassion on them, and ^(B)regarded them, ^(C)because of His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not yet destroy them or cast them from His presence.

The People Afraid of God’s Presence

¹⁸ Now ^(A)all the people ^(B)witnessed the thunderings, the lightning flashes, the sound of the trumpet, and the mountain ^(C)smoking; and when the people saw it, they trembled and stood afar off.

¹⁴ Surely You have driven me out this day from the face of the ground; ^(A)I shall be ^(B)hidden from Your face; I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond on the earth, and it will happen that ^(C)anyone who finds me will kill me.”

⁸ And they heard ^(A)the ^[a]sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the ^[b]cool of the day, and Adam and his wife ^(B)hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.

⁹ For they themselves declare concerning us ^(A)what manner of entry we had to you, ^(B)and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God,
