²² And the keeper of the prison ^(A)put Joseph in charge of all the prisoners who were in the prison. Whatever was done there, he was the one who did it.

^3 (A)and he put them in custody in the house of the captain of the guard, in the prison where Joseph was confined. ⁴ The captain of the guard appointed Joseph to be with them, and he attended them. They continued for some time in custody.

⁴ So Joseph ^(A)found favor in his sight and attended him, and he made him overseer of his house ^(B)and put him in charge of all that he had.

³⁰ Therefore the Lord, the God of Israel, declares: ^(A)‘I promised that your house and the house of your father should go in and out before me forever,’ ^(B)but now the Lord declares: ‘Far be it from me, for those who honor me I will honor, and those who despise me shall be lightly esteemed.

⁹ He is not greater in this house than I am, nor has he kept back anything from me except you, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness and ^(A)sin against God?”

⁶ So he left all that he had in Joseph's charge, and because of him he had no concern about anything but the food he ate.

Now Joseph was ^(A)handsome in form and appearance. ⁷ And after a time his master's wife cast her eyes on Joseph and said, “Lie with me.”
