² And Judah ^(A)saw there a daughter of a certain Canaanite whose name was ^(B)Shua, and he married her and went in to her.

From Judah to David^(A)

³ The sons of ^(B)Judah were Er, Onan, and Shelah. These three were born to him by the daughter of ^(C)Shua, the Canaanitess. ^(D)Er, the firstborn of Judah, was wicked in the sight of the Lord; so He killed him.

³ and I will make you ^(A)swear^[a] by the Lord, the God of heaven and the God of the earth, that ^(B)you will not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell;

^14 (A)Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For ^(B)what ^[a]fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what ^[b]communion has light with darkness?

² Then it happened one evening that David arose from his bed ^(A)and walked on the roof of the king’s house. And from the roof he ^(B)saw a woman bathing, and the woman was very beautiful to behold.

Samson and Delilah

16 Now Samson went to ^(A)Gaza and saw a harlot there, and went in to her.

² So he went up and told his father and mother, saying, “I have seen a woman in Timnah of the daughters of the Philistines; now therefore, ^(A)get her for me as a wife.”

¹² The sons of ^(A)Judah were ^(B)Er, Onan, Shelah, Perez, and Zerah (but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan). ^(C)The sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul.

² And when Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivite, prince of the country, saw her, he ^(A)took her and lay with her, and violated her.

⁴ There were ^[a]giants on the earth in those ^(A)days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.
