¹⁴ So he said to him, “Go now, see if it is well with your brothers and with the flock, and bring me word.” So he sent him from the Valley of ^(A)Hebron, and he came to Shechem.

²⁷ And Jacob came to his father Isaac at ^(A)Mamre, or ^(B)Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac had sojourned.

⁴² saying, ^(A)“Would that you, even you, had known on this day the things that make for peace! But now ^(B)they are hidden from your eyes.

⁷ But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and ^(A)pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.

^33 (A)So shall their blood come back on the head of Joab and on the head of his descendants forever. But for David and for his descendants and for his house and for his throne there shall be peace from the Lord forevermore.”

³² The king said to the Cushite, ^(A)“Is it well with the young man Absalom?” And the Cushite answered, ^(B)“May the enemies of my lord the king and all who rise up against you for evil be like that young man.”

¹⁷ And Jesse said to David his son, “Take for your brothers an ephah^[a] of this parched grain, and these ten loaves, and carry them quickly to the camp to your brothers. ^18 (A)Also take these ten cheeses to the commander of their thousand. ^(B)See if your brothers are well, and bring some token from them.”

¹³ Then Joshua ^(A)blessed him, and he gave ^(B)Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh for an inheritance.

²² They went up into ^(A)the Negeb and came to ^(B)Hebron. ^(C)Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the ^(D)descendants of Anak, were there. (^(E)Hebron was built seven years before ^(F)Zoan in Egypt.)
