⁸ So Esau settled in ^(A)the hill country of Seir. (^(B)Esau is Edom.)

³ And Jacob sent^[a] messengers before him to Esau his brother in the land of ^(A)Seir, the country of Edom,

³ but Esau I have hated. ^(A)I have laid waste his hill country and left his heritage to jackals of the desert.”

^2 (A)“Son of man, ^(B)set your face ^(C)against ^(D)Mount Seir, and prophesy against it, ³ and say to it, Thus says the Lord God: ^(E)Behold, I am against you, Mount Seir, and ^(F)I will stretch out my hand against you, ^(G)and I will make you a desolation and a waste. ^4 (H)I will lay your cities waste, and you shall become a desolation, and you shall know that I am the Lord. ⁵ Because ^(I)you cherished perpetual enmity and gave over the people of Israel to the power of the sword ^(J)at the time of their calamity, ^(K)at the time of their final punishment, ⁶ therefore, ^(L)as I live, declares the Lord God, I will prepare you for blood, and blood shall pursue you; ^(M)because you did not hate bloodshed, therefore blood shall pursue you. ^7 (N)I will make Mount Seir a waste ^(O)and a desolation, and I will cut off from it ^(P)all who come and go.

²³ For the men of Ammon and Moab rose against the inhabitants of Mount Seir, devoting them to destruction, and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, ^(A)they all helped to destroy one another.

¹⁰ And now behold, the men of ^(A)Ammon and Moab and ^(B)Mount Seir, whom ^(C)you would not let Israel invade when they came from the land of Egypt, ^(D)and whom they avoided and did not destroy—

⁴² And some of them, five hundred men of the Simeonites, went to ^(A)Mount Seir, having as their leaders Pelatiah, Neariah, Rephaiah, and Uzziel, the sons of Ishi.

⁴ And to Isaac I gave ^(A)Jacob and Esau. ^(B)And I gave Esau the hill country of Seir to possess, ^(C)but Jacob and his children went down to Egypt.

⁵ Do not contend with them, for I will not give you any of their land, no, not so much as for the sole of the foot to tread on, because ^(A)I have given Mount Seir to Esau as a possession.
