⁴³ Magdiel, and Iram; these are the clans^[a] of Edom, that is, Esau, the father of Edom, according to their settlements in the land that they held.

¹⁴ Meonothai became the father of Ophrah, and Seraiah became the father of Joab father of Ge-harashim,^[a] so-called because they were artisans.^(A)

⁵ not to engage in battle with them, for I will not give you even so much as a foot’s length of their land, since I have given Mount Seir to Esau as a possession.^(A)

Passage through Edom Refused

¹⁴ Moses sent messengers from Kadesh to the king of Edom, “Thus says your brother Israel: You know all the adversity that has befallen us,^(A)

⁸ So it was not you who sent me here but God; he has made me a father to Pharaoh and lord of all his house and ruler over all the land of Egypt.^(A)

³⁰ Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan; these are the clans^[a] of the Horites, clan by clan^[b] in the land of Seir.

³¹ These are the kings who reigned in the land of Edom before any king reigned over the Israelites.^(A)

¹⁸ These are the sons of Esau’s wife Oholibamah: the clans^[a] Jeush, Jalam, and Korah; these are the clans^[b] born of Esau’s wife Oholibamah, the daughter of Anah.^{(A) 19} These are the sons of Esau, that is, Edom, and these are their clans.^[c]
