⁴³ Magdiel, and Iram. These are the leaders of the clans of Edom, listed according to their settlements in the land they occupied. They all descended from Esau, the ancestor of the Edomites.

¹⁴ Meonothai was the father of Ophrah. Seraiah was the father of Joab, the founder of the Valley of Craftsmen,^[a] so called because they were craftsmen.

⁵ Do not bother them, for I have given them all the hill country around Mount Seir as their property, and I will not give you even one square foot of their land.

Edom Refuses Israel Passage

¹⁴ While Moses was at Kadesh, he sent ambassadors to the king of Edom with this message:

⁸ So it was God who sent me here, not you! And he is the one who made me an adviser^[a] to Pharaoh—the manager of his entire palace and the governor of all Egypt.

³¹ These are the kings who ruled in the land of Edom before any king ruled over the Israelites^[a]:
