²³ The sons of Leah: ^(A)Reuben (Jacob's firstborn), Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun.

¹⁸ Leah said, “God has given me my wages because I gave my servant to my husband.” So she called his name Issachar.^[a]

¹⁹ And Leah conceived again, and she bore Jacob a sixth son. ²⁰ Then Leah said, “God has endowed me with a good endowment; now my husband will honor me, because I have borne him six sons.” So she called his name ^(A)Zebulun.^[b]

^8 (A)Now ^(B)these are the names of the descendants of Israel, who came into Egypt, Jacob and his sons. ^(C)Reuben, Jacob's firstborn, ⁹ and the sons of Reuben: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi. ¹⁰ The sons of Simeon: Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jachin, Zohar, and Shaul, the son of a Canaanite woman. ¹¹ The sons of ^(D)Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. ¹² The sons of ^(E)Judah: Er, Onan, Shelah, Perez, and Zerah (but ^(F)Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan); and the sons of ^(G)Perez were Hezron and Hamul. ^13 (H)The sons of Issachar: Tola, Puvah, Yob, and Shimron. ¹⁴ The sons of Zebulun: Sered, Elon, and Jahleel. ¹⁵ These are the sons of Leah, ^(I)whom she bore to Jacob in Paddan-aram, together with his daughter Dinah; altogether his sons and his daughters numbered thirty-three.

³² And Leah conceived and bore a son, and she called his name Reuben,^[a] for she said, “Because the Lord ^(A)has looked upon my affliction; for now my husband will love me.” ³³ She conceived again and bore a son, and said, “Because the Lord has heard that I am hated, he has given me this son also.” And she called his name Simeon.^{[b] 34} Again she conceived and bore a son, and said, “Now this time my husband will be ^(B)attached to me, because I have borne him three sons.” Therefore his name was called Levi.^{[c] 35} And she conceived again and bore a son, and said, “This time I will praise the Lord.” Therefore she called his name ^(C)Judah.^[d] Then she ceased bearing.

² And he put the servants with their children in front, then Leah with her children, and Rachel and Joseph last of all.
