The Dinah Incident

34 Now ^(A)Dinah the daughter of Leah, whom she had borne to Jacob, went out to see the daughters of the land.

²¹ Afterward she bore a ^(A)daughter, and called her name ^[a]Dinah.

¹³ And besides they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house, and not only idle but also gossips and busybodies, saying things which they ought not.

¹⁵ These were the ^(A)sons of Leah, whom she bore to Jacob in Padan Aram, with his daughter Dinah. All the persons, his sons and his daughters, were thirty-three.

¹³ Then Leah said, “I am happy, for the daughters ^(A)will call me blessed.” So she called his name ^[a]Asher.

Esau Marries Mahalath

⁶ Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him away to Padan Aram to take himself a wife from there, and that as he blessed him he gave him a charge, saying, “You shall not take a wife from the daughters of Canaan,”

⁴⁶ And Rebekah said to Isaac, ^(A)“I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth; ^(B)if Jacob takes a wife of the daughters of Heth, like these who are the daughters of the land, what good will my life be to me?”

^34 (A)When Esau was forty years old, he took as wives Judith the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Basemath the daughter of Elon the Hittite.

⁵ to be discreet, chaste, ^(A)homemakers, good, ^(B)obedient to their own husbands, ^(C)that the word of God may not be blasphemed.
