²⁹ Jacob said, “Please tell me your name.”^(A)

But he replied, “Why do you ask my name?”^(B) Then he blessed^(C) him there.

¹⁶ The angel of the Lord replied, “Even though you detain me, I will not eat any of your food. But if you prepare a burnt offering,^(A) offer it to the Lord.” (Manoah did not realize^(B) that it was the angel of the Lord.)

¹⁷ Then Manoah inquired of the angel of the Lord, “What is your name,^(C) so that we may honor you when your word comes true?”

¹⁸ He replied, “Why do you ask my name?^(D) It is beyond understanding.^[a]”

¹⁹ The angel said to him, “I am Gabriel.^(A) I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to tell you this good news.

Israel Unrepentant

¹³ There above it^[a] stood the Lord,^(A) and he said: “I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac.^(B) I will give you and your descendants the land^(C) on which you are lying.^{(D) 14} Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you^(E) will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south.^(F) All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring.^[b](G)
