² And when Jacob saw them he said, “This is God's ^(A)camp!” So he called the name of that place ^(B)Mahanaim.^[a]

Ish-bosheth Made King of Israel

⁸ But ^(A)Abner the son of Ner, commander of Saul's army, took Ish-bosheth the son of Saul and brought him over to ^(B)Mahanaim,

³⁸ and out of the tribe of Gad, ^(A)Ramoth in Gilead with its pasturelands, the city of refuge for the manslayer, ^(B)Mahanaim with its pasturelands,

¹³ And suddenly there was with the angel ^(A)a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,

⁸ And there is also with you ^(A)Shimei the son of Gera, the Benjaminite from Bahurim, who cursed me with a grievous curse on the day ^(B)when I went to Mahanaim. ^(C)But when he came down to meet me at the Jordan, I swore to him by the Lord, saying, ‘I will not put you to death with the sword.’

²⁴ Then David came to ^(A)Mahanaim. And Absalom crossed the Jordan with all the men of Israel.

¹⁴ And he said, “No; but I am the commander of the army of the Lord. Now I have come.” And Joshua ^(A)fell on his face to the earth and worshiped^[a] and said to him, “What does my lord say to his servant?”

²⁰ Then he said, “Do you know why I have come to you? But now I will return to fight against the ^(A)prince of Persia; and when I go out, behold, the prince of ^(B)Greece will come.
