⁵³ May the God of Abraham^(A) and the God of Nahor,^(B) the God of their father, judge between us.”^(C)

So Jacob took an oath^(D) in the name of the Fear of his father Isaac.^(E)

⁴² If the God of my father,^(A) the God of Abraham^(B) and the Fear of Isaac,^(C) had not been with me,^(D) you would surely have sent me away empty-handed. But God has seen my hardship and the toil of my hands,^(E) and last night he rebuked you.^(F)”

⁵ Then Sarai said to Abram, “You are responsible for the wrong I am suffering. I put my slave in your arms, and now that she knows she is pregnant, she despises me. May the Lord judge between you and me.”^(A)

² Joshua said to all the people, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘Long ago your ancestors, including Terah the father of Abraham and Nahor,^(A) lived beyond the Euphrates River and worshiped other gods.^(B)

⁶ Then he said, “I am the God of your father,^[a] the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.”^(A) At this, Moses hid^(B) his face, because he was afraid to look at God.^(C)

²⁴ When Nahor had lived 29 years, he became the father of Terah.^{(A) 25} And after he became the father of Terah, Nahor lived 119 years and had other sons and daughters.

²⁶ After Terah had lived 70 years, he became the father of Abram,^(B) Nahor^(C) and Haran.^(D)

Abram’s Family

²⁷ This is the account^(E) of Terah’s family line.

Terah became the father of Abram, Nahor^(F) and Haran. And Haran became the father of Lot.^{(G) 28} While his father Terah was still alive, Haran died in Ur of the Chaldeans,^(H) in the land of his birth. ²⁹ Abram and Nahor^(I) both married. The name of Abram’s wife was Sarai,^(J) and the name of Nahor’s wife was Milkah;^(K) she was the daughter of Haran, the father of both Milkah and Iskah.

¹³ Fear the Lord^(A) your God, serve him only^(B) and take your oaths^(C) in his name.^(D)

¹³ There above it^[a] stood the Lord,^(A) and he said: “I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac.^(B) I will give you and your descendants the land^(C) on which you are lying.^(D)

²⁸ They answered, “We saw clearly that the Lord was with you;^(A) so we said, ‘There ought to be a sworn agreement between us’—between us and you. Let us make a treaty^(B) with you ²⁹ that you will do us no harm,^(C) just as we did not harm you but always treated you well and sent you away peacefully. And now you are blessed by the Lord.”^(D)

³⁰ Isaac then made a feast^(E) for them, and they ate and drank. ³¹ Early the next morning the men swore an oath^(F) to each other. Then Isaac sent them on their way, and they went away peacefully.
