³⁷ Now that you have searched through all my goods, what have you found that belongs to your household?^(A) Put it here in front of your relatives^(B) and mine, and let them judge between the two of us.^(C)

¹⁶ keeping a clear conscience,^(A) so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.^(B)

¹² Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds^(A) and glorify God^(B) on the day he visits us.

¹⁸ Pray for us.^(A) We are sure that we have a clear conscience^(B) and desire to live honorably in every way.

¹⁰ You are witnesses,^(A) and so is God,^(B) of how holy,^(C) righteous and blameless we were among you who believed.

⁴ Therefore, if you have disputes about such matters, do you ask for a ruling from those whose way of life is scorned in the church? ⁵ I say this to shame you.^(A) Is it possible that there is nobody among you wise enough to judge a dispute between believers?^(B)

¹⁶ But if they will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.’^[a](A)

³ Here I stand. Testify against me in the presence of the Lord and his anointed.^(A) Whose ox have I taken? Whose donkey^(B) have I taken? Whom have I cheated? Whom have I oppressed? From whose hand have I accepted a bribe^(C) to make me shut my eyes? If I have done^(D) any of these things, I will make it right.”^(E)

⁴ “You have not cheated or oppressed us,” they replied. “You have not taken anything from anyone’s hand.”

²³ They took the things from the tent, brought them to Joshua and all the Israelites and spread them out before the Lord.

³² But if you find anyone who has your gods, that person shall not live.^(A) In the presence of our relatives, see for yourself whether there is anything of yours here with me; and if so, take it.” Now Jacob did not know that Rachel had stolen the gods.^(B)
