⁴ So she gave him her servant Bilhah as a wife.^(A) Jacob slept with her,^(B)

¹¹ “This is what the Lord says: ‘Out of your own household^(A) I am going to bring calamity on you.^(B) Before your very eyes I will take your wives and give them to one who is close to you, and he will sleep with your wives in broad daylight.^(C)

²² While Israel was living in that region, Reuben went in and slept with his father’s concubine^(A) Bilhah,^(B) and Israel heard of it.

Jacob had twelve sons:

² He put the female servants and their children^(A) in front, Leah and her children next, and Rachel and Joseph^(B) in the rear.

⁶ But while he was still living, he gave gifts to the sons of his concubines^(A) and sent them away from his son Isaac^(B) to the land of the east.^(C)

The Death of Abraham^(A)

25 Abraham had taken another wife, whose name was Keturah.

²⁴ His concubine,^(A) whose name was Reumah, also had sons: Tebah, Gaham, Tahash and Maakah.

¹⁰ and she said to Abraham, “Get rid of that slave woman^(A) and her son, for that woman’s son will never share in the inheritance with my son Isaac.”^(B)

³ So after Abram had been living in Canaan^(A) ten years,^(B) Sarai his wife took her Egyptian slave Hagar and gave her to her husband to be his wife. ⁴ He slept with Hagar,^(C) and she conceived.

When she knew she was pregnant, she began to despise her mistress.^(D)
