³⁹ the flocks bred in front of the rods, and so the flocks produced young that were striped, speckled, and spotted.

³⁵ The Israelites had acted according to the word of Moses; they had asked the Egyptians for jewelry of silver and gold and for clothing,^{(A) 36} and the Lord had given the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they let them have what they asked. And so they plundered the Egyptians.^(B)

⁴² If the God of my father, the God of Abraham and the Fear^[a] of Isaac, had not been on my side, surely now you would have sent me away empty-handed. God saw my affliction and the labor of my hands and rebuked you last night.”^(A)

⁴⁰ It was like this with me: by day the heat consumed me and the cold by night, and my sleep fled from my eyes.

³⁸ These twenty years I have been with you; your ewes and your female goats have not miscarried, and I have not eaten the rams of your flocks.

⁹ Thus God has taken away the livestock of your father and given them to me.
