²⁰ The man named his wife Eve^[a] because she was the mother of all living.

which means, “God is with us.”^(A)

²³ Then the man said,

²⁹ he named him Noah, saying, “Out of the ground that the Lord has cursed this one shall bring us relief from our work and from the toil of our hands.”^(A)

²⁰ The man gave names to all cattle and to the birds of the air and to every animal of the field, but for the man^[a] there was not found a helper as his partner.

²⁶ From one ancestor^[a] he made all peoples to inhabit the whole earth, and he allotted the times of their existence and the boundaries of the places where they would live,^(A)

²¹ She will bear a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”^(A)

²⁰ In due time Hannah conceived and bore a son. She named him Samuel, for she said, “I have asked him of the Lord.”^(A)
