¹³ Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?”

The woman said, “The serpent deceived me,^(A) and I ate.”

³ But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning,^(A) your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ.

¹⁴ And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner.^(A)

¹⁰ The Lord said, “What have you done? Listen! Your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground.^{(A) 11} Now you are under a curse^(B) and driven from the ground, which opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand. ¹² When you work the ground, it will no longer yield its crops for you.^(C) You will be a restless wanderer^(D) on the earth.^(E)”

³⁵ “Am I a Jew?” Pilate replied. “Your own people and chief priests handed you over to me. What is it you have done?”

⁴ “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman.^{(A) 5} “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God,^(B) knowing good and evil.”

⁶ When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable^(C) for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband,^(D) who was with her, and he ate it.^(E)

⁹ Why did you despise^(A) the word of the Lord by doing what is evil in his eyes? You struck down^(B) Uriah^(C) the Hittite with the sword and took his wife to be your own. You killed^(D) him with the sword of the Ammonites. ¹⁰ Now, therefore, the sword^(E) will never depart from your house, because you despised me and took the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your own.’

¹¹ “This is what the Lord says: ‘Out of your own household^(F) I am going to bring calamity on you.^(G) Before your very eyes I will take your wives and give them to one who is close to you, and he will sleep with your wives in broad daylight.^{(H) 12} You did it in secret,^(I) but I will do this thing in broad daylight^(J) before all Israel.’”

²⁴ So Joab went to the king and said, “What have you done? Look, Abner came to you. Why did you let him go? Now he is gone!

¹⁵ Joseph said to them, “What is this you have done?^(A) Don’t you know that a man like me can find things out by divination?^(B)”
