²⁹ Laban gave his servant Bilhah^(A) to his daughter Rachel as her attendant.^(B)

³ Then she said, “Here is Bilhah,^(A) my servant.^(B) Sleep with her so that she can bear children for me and I too can build a family through her.”^(C)

⁴ So she gave him her servant Bilhah as a wife.^(A) Jacob slept with her,^(B)

⁵ and she became pregnant and bore him a son.

⁷ Rachel’s servant Bilhah^(A) conceived again and bore Jacob a second son.

²² While Israel was living in that region, Reuben went in and slept with his father’s concubine^(A) Bilhah,^(B) and Israel heard of it.

Jacob had twelve sons:

Joseph,^(B) a young man of seventeen,^(C) was tending the flocks^(D) with his brothers, the sons of Bilhah^(E) and the sons of Zilpah,^(F) his father’s wives, and he brought their father a bad report^(G) about them.

²⁵ These were the sons born to Jacob by Bilhah,^(A) whom Laban had given to his daughter Rachel^(B)—seven in all.
