²⁰ In the time of Jehoram, Edom rebelled against Judah and set up its own king.^{(A) 21} So Jehoram^[a] went to Zair with all his chariots. The Edomites surrounded him and his chariot commanders, but he rose up and broke through by night; his army, however, fled back home. ²² To this day Edom has been in rebellion^(B) against Judah. Libnah^(C) revolted at the same time.

²³ The Lord said to her,

¹⁰ To this day Edom has been in rebellion against Judah.

Libnah^(A) revolted at the same time, because Jehoram had forsaken the Lord, the God of his ancestors.

¹⁴ He put garrisons throughout Edom, and all the Edomites^(A) became subject to David.^(B) The Lord gave David victory^(C) wherever he went.^(D)

¹¹ Amaziah then marshaled his strength and led his army to the Valley of Salt, where he killed ten thousand men of Seir. ¹² The army of Judah also captured ten thousand men alive, took them to the top of a cliff and threw them down so that all were dashed to pieces.^(A)
