27 When Isaac was old and his eyes were so weak that he could no longer see,^(A) he called for Esau his older son^(B) and said to him, “My son.”

“Here I am,” he answered.

¹⁰ Now Israel’s eyes were failing because of old age, and he could hardly see.^(A) So Joseph brought his sons close to him, and his father kissed them^(B) and embraced them.^(C)

² One night Eli, whose eyes^(A) were becoming so weak that he could barely see,^(B) was lying down in his usual place.

³ “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.^(A)

²³ The Lord said to her,

²⁴ When the time came for her to give birth,^(C) there were twin boys in her womb.^{(D) 25} The first to come out was red,^(E) and his whole body was like a hairy garment;^(F) so they named him Esau.^[a](G)
