²⁷ So the boys grew. And Esau was ^(A)a skillful hunter, a man of the field; but Jacob was ^(B)a ^[a]mild man, ^(C)dwelling in tents.

⁹ By faith he dwelt in the land of promise as in a foreign country, ^(A)dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, ^(B)the heirs with him of the same promise;

²⁰ So God ^(A)was with the lad; and he grew and dwelt in the wilderness, ^(B)and became an archer.

³ Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, ^(A)a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil? And still he ^(B)holds fast to his integrity, although you incited Me against him, ^(C)to ^[a]destroy him without cause.”

⁸ Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you ^[a]considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and ^[b]shuns evil?”

Job and His Family in Uz

1 There was a man ^(A)in the land of Uz, whose name was ^(B)Job; and that man was ^(C)blameless and upright, and one who ^(D)feared God and ^[a]shunned evil.

³⁴ that you shall say, ‘Your servants’ ^(A)occupation has been with livestock ^(B)from our youth even till now, both we and also our fathers,’ that you may dwell in the land of Goshen; for every shepherd is ^(C)an^[a] abomination to the Egyptians.”

^39 (A)That which was torn by beasts I did not bring to you; I bore the loss of it. ^(B)You required it from my hand, whether stolen by day or stolen by night. ⁴⁰ There I was! In the day the drought consumed me, and the frost by night, and my sleep departed from my eyes. ⁴¹ Thus I have been in your house twenty years; I ^(C)served you fourteen years for your two daughters, and six years for your flock, and ^(D)you have changed my wages ten times.
