²⁷ When the boys grew up, Esau was ^(A)a skillful hunter, a man of the field, while Jacob was a quiet man, ^(B)dwelling in tents.

⁹ By faith he went to live in ^(A)the land of promise, as in a foreign land, ^(B)living in tents ^(C)with Isaac and Jacob, heirs with him of the same promise.

²⁰ And God was with the boy, and he grew up. He lived in the wilderness ^(A)and became an expert with the bow.

⁹ He was a mighty hunter before the Lord. Therefore it is said, “Like Nimrod a mighty hunter before the Lord.”

Noah and the Flood

⁹ These are the generations of Noah. ^(A)Noah was a righteous man, ^(B)blameless in his generation. Noah ^(C)walked with God.

⁸ And the Lord said to Satan, “Have you ^(A)considered my ^(B)servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, ^(C)a blameless and upright man, who fears God and turns away from evil?”

Job's Character and Wealth

1 There was a man in the land of ^(A)Uz whose name was ^(B)Job, and that man was ^(C)blameless and upright, one who ^(D)feared God and ^(E)turned away from evil.

³⁴ you shall say, ^(A)‘Your servants have been keepers of livestock ^(B)from our youth even until now, both we and our fathers,’ in order that you may dwell ^(C)in the land of Goshen, for every shepherd is ^(D)an abomination to the Egyptians.”

³⁹ What was torn by wild beasts I did not bring to you. I bore the loss of it myself. ^(A)From my hand you required it, whether stolen by day or stolen by night. ⁴⁰ There I was: by day the heat consumed me, and the cold by night, and my sleep fled from my eyes. ⁴¹ These twenty years I have been in your house. ^(B)I served you fourteen years for your two daughters, and six years for your flock, and ^(C)you have changed my wages ten times.
