Ishmael’s Sons(A)

12 This is the account(B) of the family line of Abraham’s son Ishmael, whom Sarah’s slave, Hagar(C) the Egyptian, bore to Abraham.(D)

20 And as for Ishmael, I have heard you: I will surely bless him; I will make him fruitful and will greatly increase his numbers.(A) He will be the father of twelve rulers,(B) and I will make him into a great nation.(C)

10 The angel added, “I will increase your descendants so much that they will be too numerous to count.”(A)

11 The angel of the Lord(B) also said to her:

“You are now pregnant
    and you will give birth to a son.(C)
You shall name him(D) Ishmael,[a](E)
    for the Lord has heard of your misery.(F)
12 He will be a wild donkey(G) of a man;
    his hand will be against everyone
    and everyone’s hand against him,
and he will live in hostility
    toward[b] all his brothers.(H)

13 She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: “You are the God who sees me,(I)” for she said, “I have now seen[c] the One who sees me.”(J) 14 That is why the well(K) was called Beer Lahai Roi[d];(L) it is still there, between Kadesh(M) and Bered.

15 So Hagar(N) bore Abram a son,(O) and Abram gave the name Ishmael(P) to the son she had borne.
