⁸ And if the woman is not willing to follow you, then ^(A)you will be released from this oath; only do not take my son back there.”

¹⁷ So the men said to her: “We will be ^(A)blameless^[a] of this oath of yours which you have made us swear, ^18 (B)unless, when we come into the land, you bind this line of scarlet cord in the window through which you let us down, ^(C)and unless you ^[b]bring your father, your mother, your brothers, and all your father’s household to your own home. ¹⁹ So it shall be that whoever goes outside the doors of your house into the street, his blood shall be on his own head, and we will be ^[c]guiltless. And whoever is with you in the house, ^(D)his ^[d]blood shall be on our head if a hand is laid on him. ²⁰ And if you tell this business of ours, then we will be ^[e]free from your oath which you made us swear.”

⁸ But if her husband ^(A)overrules her on the day that he hears it, he shall make void her vow which she took and what she uttered with her lips, by which she bound herself, and the Lord will release her.

⁵ But if her father overrules her on the day that he hears, then none of her vows nor her agreements by which she has bound herself shall stand; and the Lord will release her, because her father overruled her.

² And he said, ^(A)“Brethren and fathers, listen: The ^(B)God of glory appeared to our father Abraham when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in ^(C)Haran,

³² And you shall know the ^(A)truth, and ^(B)the truth shall make you free.”

²⁰ This we will do to them: We will let them live, lest ^(A)wrath be upon us because of the oath which we swore to them.”

^4 (A)but you shall go ^(B)to my country and to my family, and take a wife for my son Isaac.”

⁵ And the servant said to him, “Perhaps the woman will not be willing to follow me to this land. Must I take your son back to the land from which you came?”

⁶ But Abraham said to him, “Beware that you do not take my son back there.
