² So Abraham said ^(A)to the oldest servant of his house, who ^(B)ruled over all that he had, “Please, ^(C)put your hand under my thigh,

²⁹ When the time ^(A)drew near that Israel must die, he called his son Joseph and said to him, “Now if I have found favor in your sight, please ^(B)put your hand under my thigh, and ^(C)deal kindly and truly with me. ^(D)Please do not bury me in Egypt,

⁴ So Joseph ^(A)found favor in his sight, and served him. Then he made him ^(B)overseer of his house, and all that he had he put ^[a]under his authority. ⁵ So it was, from the time that he had made him overseer of his house and all that he had, that ^(C)the Lord blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; and the blessing of the Lord was on all that he had in the house and in the field. ⁶ Thus he left all that he had in Joseph’s ^[b]hand, and he did not know what he had except for the ^[c]bread which he ate.

Now Joseph ^(D)was handsome in form and appearance.

^2 (A)But Abram said, “Lord God, what will You give me, ^(B)seeing I ^[a]go childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?”

²⁴ All the leaders and the mighty men, and also all the sons of King David, ^(A)submitted^[a] themselves to King Solomon.

Joseph’s Cup

44 And he commanded ^[a]the ^(A)steward of his house, saying, ^(B)“Fill the men’s sacks with food, as much as they can carry, and put each man’s money in the mouth of his sack.

⁸ But he refused and said to his master’s wife, “Look, my master does not know what is with me in the house, and he has committed all that he has to my hand. ⁹ There is no one greater in this house than I, nor has he kept back anything from me but you, because you are his wife. ^(A)How then can I do this great wickedness, and ^(B)sin against God?”

⁹ So the servant put his hand under the thigh of Abraham his master, and swore to him concerning this matter.

¹⁰ Then the servant took ten of his master’s camels and departed, ^(A)for all his master’s goods were in his hand. And he arose and went to Mesopotamia, to ^(B)the city of Nahor.

Honor the Elders

¹⁷ Let the elders who rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in the word and doctrine.
