¹⁶ Now the young woman ^(A)was very beautiful to behold, a virgin; no man had known her. And she went down to the well, filled her pitcher, and came up.

⁷ And the men of the place asked about his wife. And ^(A)he said, “She is my sister”; for ^(B)he was afraid to say, “She is my wife,” because he thought, “lest the men of the place kill me for Rebekah, because she is ^(C)beautiful to behold.”

¹⁷ Now therefore, ^(A)kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman who has known a man intimately. ¹⁸ But keep alive ^(B)for yourselves all the young girls who have not known a man intimately.

⁶ Thus he left all that he had in Joseph’s ^[a]hand, and he did not know what he had except for the ^[b]bread which he ate.
