²⁰ So the field and the cave that is in it ^(A)were deeded to Abraham by the sons of Heth as property for a burial place.

¹⁰ And I signed the ^[a]deed and sealed it, took witnesses, and weighed the money on the scales. ¹¹ So I took the purchase deed, both that which was sealed according to the law and custom, and that which was open; ¹² and I gave the purchase deed to ^(A)Baruch the son of Neriah, son of Mahseiah, in the presence of Hanamel my uncle’s son, and in the presence of the ^(B)witnesses who signed the purchase deed, before all the Jews who sat in the court of the prison.

¹³ “Then I charged ^(C)Baruch before them, saying, ¹⁴ ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: “Take these deeds, both this purchase deed which is sealed and this deed which is open, and put them in an earthen vessel, that they may last many days.”

^7 (A)Now this was the custom in former times in Israel concerning redeeming and exchanging, to confirm anything: one man took off his sandal and gave it to the other, and this was a confirmation in Israel.

⁸ Therefore the close relative said to Boaz, “Buy it for yourself.” So he took off his sandal. ⁹ And Boaz said to the elders and all the people, “You are witnesses this day that I have bought all that was Elimelech’s, and all that was Chilion’s and Mahlon’s, from the hand of Naomi. ¹⁰ Moreover, Ruth the Moabitess, the widow of Mahlon, I have acquired as my wife, to perpetuate the name of the dead through his inheritance, ^(B)that the name of the dead may not be cut off from among his brethren and from ^[a]his position at the gate. You are witnesses this day.”

¹⁸ So ^(A)Manasseh ^[a]rested with his fathers, and was buried in the garden of his own house, in the garden of Uzza. Then his son Amon reigned in his place.

²⁴ Then the king said to Araunah, “No, but I will surely buy it from you for a price; nor will I offer burnt offerings to the Lord my God with that which costs me nothing.” So ^(A)David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.

²⁴ And Joseph said to his brethren, “I am dying; but ^(A)God will surely visit you, and bring you out of this land to the land ^(B)of which He swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.” ²⁵ Then ^(C)Joseph took an oath from the children of Israel, saying, “God will surely ^[a]visit you, and ^(D)you shall carry up my ^(E)bones from here.”

¹³ For ^(A)his sons carried him to the land of Canaan, and buried him in the cave of the field of Machpelah, before Mamre, which Abraham ^(B)bought with the field from Ephron the Hittite as property for a burial place.

^5 (A)‘My father made me swear, saying, “Behold, I am dying; in my grave ^(B)which I dug for myself in the land of Canaan, there you shall bury me.” Now therefore, please let me go up and bury my father, and I will come back.’ ”

^31 (A)There they buried Abraham and Sarah his wife, ^(B)there they buried Isaac and Rebekah his wife, and there I buried Leah. ³² The field and the cave that is there were purchased from the sons of Heth.”
