²¹ He lived in the wilderness of Paran, and his mother got a wife for him from the land of Egypt.^(A)

³⁸ So then, he who marries his fiancée^[a] does well, and he who refrains from marriage will do better.

Death of Samuel

25 Now Samuel died, and all Israel assembled and mourned for him. They buried him at his home in Ramah.

Then David got up and went down to the wilderness of Paran.^(A)

² Then he came up and told his father and mother, “I saw a Philistine woman at Timnah; now get her for me as my wife.”^(A)

²⁶ And they came to Moses and Aaron and to all the congregation of the Israelites in the wilderness of Paran, at Kadesh; they brought back word to them and to all the congregation and showed them the fruit of the land.^(A)

³ So Moses sent them from the wilderness of Paran, according to the command of the Lord, all of them leading men among the Israelites.

¹⁶ After that the people set out from Hazeroth and camped in the wilderness of Paran.

¹² Then the Israelites set out by stages from the wilderness of Sinai, and the cloud settled down in the wilderness of Paran.

⁴⁶ Then Rebekah said to Isaac, “I am weary of my life because of the Hittite women. If Jacob marries one of the Hittite women such as these, one of the women of the land, what good will my life be to me?”^(A)

28 Then Isaac called Jacob and blessed him and charged him, “You shall not marry one of the Canaanite women.^{(B) 2} Go at once to Paddan-aram to the house of Bethuel, your mother’s father, and take as wife from there one of the daughters of Laban, your mother’s brother.^(C)

Esau’s Hittite Wives

³⁴ When Esau was forty years old, he married Judith daughter of Beeri the Hittite and Basemath daughter of Elon the Hittite,^{(A) 35} and they made life bitter for Isaac and Rebekah.^(B)
