²³ Then Abraham approached him and said: “Will you sweep away the righteous with the wicked?^(A)

²² But Moses and Aaron fell facedown^(A) and cried out, “O God, the God who gives breath to all living things,^(B) will you be angry with the entire assembly^(C) when only one man sins?”^(D)

¹⁷ When David saw the angel who was striking down the people, he said to the Lord, “I have sinned; I, the shepherd,^[a] have done wrong. These are but sheep.^(A) What have they done?^(B) Let your hand fall on me and my family.”^(C)

⁴ Now Abimelek had not gone near her, so he said, “Lord, will you destroy an innocent nation?^(A)

²² let us draw near to God^(A) with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings,^(B) having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience^(C) and having our bodies washed with pure water.^(D)

⁵ But if our unrighteousness brings out God’s righteousness more clearly,^(A) what shall we say? That God is unjust in bringing his wrath on us? (I am using a human argument.)^{(B) 6} Certainly not! If that were so, how could God judge the world?^(C)

²⁵ Far be it from you to do such a thing^(A)—to kill the righteous with the wicked, treating the righteous^(B) and the wicked alike.^(C) Far be it from you! Will not the Judge^(D) of all the earth do right?”^(E)
