²⁴ Abraham was ninety-nine years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.

^11 (A)He received the sign of circumcision as a seal of the righteousness that he had by faith while he was still uncircumcised. The purpose was ^(B)to make him the father of all who believe without being circumcised, so that righteousness would be counted to them as well,

¹⁹ He did not weaken in faith when he considered his own body, which was ^(A)as good as dead (^(B)since he was about a hundred years old), or when he considered ^(C)the barrenness^[a] of Sarah's womb. ²⁰ No unbelief made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God,

¹⁷ Then Abraham ^(A)fell on his face ^(B)and laughed and said to himself, “Shall a child be born to a man who is a hundred years old? Shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a child?”

Abraham and the Covenant of Circumcision

17 When Abram was ninety-nine years old the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am God Almighty;^[a] walk before me, and be ^(A)blameless,

⁴ So Abram went, as the Lord had told him, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from ^(A)Haran.
