²² When he had finished speaking with Abraham, God went up from him.^(A)

⁹ After Jacob returned from Paddan Aram,^[a](A) God appeared to him again and blessed him.^{(B) 10} God said to him, “Your name is Jacob,^[b] but you will no longer be called Jacob; your name will be Israel.^[c]”^(C) So he named him Israel.

¹¹ And God said to him, “I am God Almighty^[d];^(D) be fruitful and increase in number.^(E) A nation^(F) and a community of nations will come from you, and kings will be among your descendants.^{(G) 12} The land I gave to Abraham and Isaac I also give to you, and I will give this land to your descendants after you.^(H)”^{(I) 13} Then God went up from him^(J) at the place where he had talked with him.

¹⁴ Jacob set up a stone pillar^(K) at the place where God had talked with him, and he poured out a drink offering^(L) on it; he also poured oil on it.^{(M) 15} Jacob called the place where God had talked with him Bethel.^[e](N)

³³ When the Lord had finished speaking^(A) with Abraham, he left,^(B) and Abraham returned home.^(C)

³⁰ I and the Father are one.”^(A)

¹⁸ No one has ever seen God,^(A) but the one and only Son, who is himself God and^[a](B) is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.

²⁰ As the flame^(A) blazed up from the altar toward heaven, the angel of the Lord ascended in the flame. Seeing this, Manoah and his wife fell with their faces to the ground.^(B)

²¹ Then the angel of the Lord touched the meat and the unleavened bread^(A) with the tip of the staff^(B) that was in his hand. Fire flared from the rock, consuming the meat and the bread. And the angel of the Lord disappeared.

⁴ The Lord spoke^(A) to you face to face^(B) out of the fire^(C) on the mountain.
