¹¹ You shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be a ^(A)sign of the covenant between me and you.

^11 (A)He received the sign of circumcision as a seal of the righteousness that he had by faith while he was still uncircumcised. The purpose was ^(B)to make him the father of all who believe without being circumcised, so that righteousness would be counted to them as well,

⁸ And ^(A)he gave him the covenant of circumcision. And ^(B)so Abraham became the father of Isaac, and ^(C)circumcised him on the eighth day, and ^(D)Isaac became the father of Jacob, and ^(E)Jacob of the twelve patriarchs.

¹⁶ Circumcise therefore ^(A)the foreskin of your heart, and be no longer ^(B)stubborn.

¹⁴ Then David sent messengers to Ish-bosheth, Saul's son, saying, “Give me my wife Michal, ^(A)for whom I paid the bridal price of a hundred foreskins of the Philistines.”

²⁵ Then Saul said, “Thus shall you say to David, ‘The king desires no ^(A)bride-price except a hundred foreskins of the Philistines, ^(B)that he may be avenged of the king's enemies.’” ^(C)Now Saul thought to make David fall by the hand of the Philistines. ²⁶ And when his servants told David these words, it pleased David well to be the king's son-in-law. ^(D)Before the time had expired, ²⁷ David arose and went, ^(E)along with his men, and killed two hundred of the Philistines. ^(F)And David brought their foreskins, which were given in full number to the king, that he might become the king's son-in-law. And Saul gave him his daughter Michal for a wife.

³ So Joshua made flint knives and circumcised the sons of Israel at Gibeath-haaraloth.^[a]

^48 (A)If a stranger shall sojourn with you and would keep the Passover to the Lord, let all his males be circumcised. Then he may come near and keep it; he ^(B)shall be as a native of the land. But no uncircumcised person shall eat of it.

²⁵ Then ^(A)Zipporah took a ^(B)flint and cut off her son's foreskin and touched Moses'^[a] feet with it and said, “Surely you are a bridegroom of blood to me!”
