¹³ So she called the name of the Lord who spoke to her, “Thou art a God of seeing”; for she said, “Have I really seen God and remained alive after seeing him?”^[a]

³⁰ So Jacob called the name of the place Peni′el,^[a] saying, “For I have seen God face to face, and yet my life is preserved.”

¹⁹ and said to Moses, “You speak to us, and we will hear; but let not God speak to us, lest we die.”

²⁰ But,” he said, “you cannot see my face; for man shall not see me and live.”

³³ Did any people ever hear the voice of a god speaking out of the midst of the fire, as you have heard, and still live?

²⁴ and you said, ‘Behold, the Lord our God has shown us his glory and greatness, and we have heard his voice out of the midst of the fire; we have this day seen God speak with man and man still live. ²⁵ Now therefore why should we die? For this great fire will consume us; if we hear the voice of the Lord our God any more, we shall die. ²⁶ For who is there of all flesh, that has heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the midst of fire, as we have, and has still lived?
